Tharpe, Sr. Mr. E.M. Tharpe, Sr., one of oldest and most respected citizens, died at the Tharpe Hotel, where he had been living several years, last Friday morning after an illness of several months. The funeral took place from the hotel at 10 o’clock Saturday morning, Rev. R.B. Taylor conducting the services. The Masonic fraternity, of which Mr. Tharpe was a member, conducted the usual burial services of that order at the grave. A large number of our people attended the funeral services and followed the remains to their last resting place. Mr. Tharpe was about 68 years of age at the time of his death, and had for a long time been identified with the Baptist church. He had been married twice, having married sisters, and his last wife survives him. He leaves a wife and a number of children and grandchildren to mourn his death. The people of Buena Vista deeply sympathize with the family in their great and irreparable loss.
