Graveside funeral services were held Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus with Rev. Lynn McManius officiating. The family received friends at Tante Funeral Home Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Mrs. Tate was born June 11, 1941 in Columbus, the daughter of the late Lester and Annie Phillips Griggs. She had lived in Columbus most of her life except for the past year, and she was retired from Swift Textile Mill as a spinner. She was Baptist by faith. Mrs. Tate loved her children and grandchildren and enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley music. Survivors include her sons, David Merrit and Connie of Coffeyville, Kansas, Steve Soule and Carlene of Little River, Kansas and Don Tate and Tammy of Buena Vista; daughters, Robin Powell of Buena Vista and Angie Collins of Hamilton, Georgia; brother, Leon Griggs of Columbus; a sister, Evelyn King of Columbus; and 15 Grandchildren and nine Great Grandchildren. Tante Funeral Home of Buena Vista was in charge of arrangements, with her grandsons, Jeff Hoover, C.J. Creech, Johnathan Chafin, and Robert Williams serving as pallbearers.
