Wilcher, an aged lady, who at one time resided in this county near Tazewell. This affair is made more sad when the facts connected with the suicide are known. Some years ago R.E. Wilcher, her son, moved to Texas leaving his aged mother and several sisters behind, all of whom we believe are married. Mrs. Wilcher, when she lived in this county, had a snug amount of property around her, and her son returned from Texas and by some means got possession of the greater portion of it. After a time Mrs. Wilcher decided to go to Texas where her son resided, and she sold what property was left and realized therefrom about $500, which the son also appropriated. A home with her stepdaughter was not an agreeable one, and she went to live with her own daughter, Mrs. H.G. Chapman, who lived at Anneta, but Mrs. Chapman refused to admit her to her home, saying that her brother had usurped his mother’s property and that he must take care of her. Such mistreatment on the part of her children, who should have known nothing but love and respect for their aged and helpless mother, so worked upon the old lady’s mind that she decided to end her days taking her own life, which act was accomplished by hanging.
