Bob had spent most of his life in Buena Vista and came to Tybee where he would be close to family. He was born May 27, 1922, in Buena Vista, Georgia, the youngest child of Charles Williams Webb and Hannah Lingo Webb. He married the love of his life, Doris Darsey, in 1949, and they were happily married for 53 years at her death in 2002. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Douglas Webb and Marvin Enoch Webb, and sisters, Evelyn Webb Covington and Martha Webb Brown and nephew, Larry Alan Covington. Bob served in the United States Army in World War II being inducted in October 1942 and was honorably discharged in March 1946. He was educated in the Buena Vista schools and graduated from high school at the Berry School in Rome, Georgia after serving in the army. He maintained a close relationship with his Berry Classmates and participated in Berry work weeks until this past year. He established a special Endowment ," The Bob Webb/John Hamrick Berry Farms Genetics Enterprise Manager Work Endowment." Bob and Doris were married in Atlanta, Georgia where Bob worked for Otis Elevator. Later, they were both students at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. They moved to Buena Vista in 1953 where he had multiple business ventures including "Oochee Creek Worm Farm" and Webb Wholesale Produce from which he retired. In retirement, he became an expert in building fishing rods and many of his friends and relatives are lucky to have one or two. He was very active in the Buena Vista United Methodist Church and sang in the choir. He also was very active in the Masons and received recognition for being a Master Mason for over fifty years. Mr. Webb is survived by his brother-in-law, Glenn Darsey (Elise) of Florence, Alabama; nephews, Douglas Webb(Lamar) of Tybee Island, Georgia, Joe Webb(Patty) of Brevard, NC, Derek Darsey(Annette) of Murfeesboro,TN; nieces, Janet Covington of Ocean Springs, MS, Jean Webb Tippins(Bedell) of Silverthorn, CO, Dale Covington Benik(William) of Daphne, AL, and Lisa Darsey Strunk(Steve) of Pell City, AL.; great nieces, Laurie Covington Hawkins(David) of Franklin, TN, Paula Covington Roche(Joseph) of Louisville, KY, Marcy Webb(Matthew Reid) of Calistoga, CA and Kathryn Webb(Charles Whedbee) of Shoreline, WA.; great nephew, Douglas Webb, III(Annie) of Frisco, CO.; great-great nieces, Avery Roche, Anika Roche, Beatrix Webb, Hannah Webb, and Samantha Strunk. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Buena Vista United Methodist Church in Buena Vista on Thursday, June 5, 2014. The funeral service will be held at 2:00PM Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the Buena Vista United Methodist Church conducted by the Reverend Jerry Akin. Interment will follow at The Buena Vista Cemetery, The family wishes to thank the many people in Buena Vista who visited with and helped Bob and took him fishing while he was at home. We also have a special thanks to the staff at Savannah Beach Nursing and Rehabilitation Center who gave Bob such compassionate care during his time there as well as Hospice Savannah.
