T.B. Rainey. The ceremony will take place in the Baptist Church on Tuesday, May 19th. The Marion County Patriot, No. 20 Friday, May 22, 1908 Page One Hirshburg – Rainey One of the most beautiful church weddings ever witnessed in Buena Vista was the marriage which took place at the Baptist Church on the morning of the 19th of May, at 10 o’clock. It was a dream of beauty – everywhere a feast for the eye was seen, where loving hands and artistic skill had made a fairy palace of the “Home Beautiful.” Around the pulpit a wreath of vines and roses, in the background tall palms, ferns, hydrangeas and other exotic plants. Recessed within this bower of beauty was the musician, Miss Lillian Reese. A path of green formed the middle aisle and down this “Isle of Palms” the couples wended their way to the entrancing strains of Mendelsohn’s Wedding March. At the end of the vista a crescent suspended, exquisite in its design, roses shining like stars amid the green canopy. Under this the bridal couple stood and plighted their troth as Miss Lillian Reese sweetly rendered “Evening Star” from Tanhouser. As the audience sat in silent contemplation of the bewitching beauty of the scene, upon the ear there falls the sweet voice of song, “Would that my Love,” sung by Misses Margaret Drane and Ruth Smith. As their voices cease, two little maids in white and pink, like fairies in this enchanted place, advance and tread their graceful way adown the emerald aisle, and the grand strains of the wedding march resound. The fairy nymphs, Linda Lowe and Mahala Butt, reach for the ribbons that hold the crescent canopy in shape at either side, as the ushers, Messrs. Marcus Lowe and Charley Edge, advance, followed by Mr. Charley Clements and Dr. Lightner, after them the handsome bridegroom, Col. T.B. Rainey, and his best man, Mr. Roswell M. Hair; then appears the beautiful bride, Miss Inez Hirshburg, gowned in a copenhagen silk traveling suit, meeting her maid of honor, Miss Florence Smith, who was lovely in a white lingerie suit, at the head of the vista of ferns, and leaning on her arm, advances meeting the bridegroom where her father, the Rev. LeRoy Hirshburg awaits. In a very few choice and impressive words they were made man and wife, and the twain became one flesh. The inspiring strains of “Here Comes the Bride”, begins and the couples pass out in like manner as they went, only the bride now leans upon the arm of her offianced husband, and the maid of honor with the best man. Miss Hirshburg, since making her home for the past two years in Buena Vista, has by her lovely Christian character endeared herself to this community as few young ladies ever have and Col. Rainey, beside being one of the prominent lawyers of the city, is our popular County School Commissioner; so the church was filled with an admiring crowd of their friends, and many congratulations and well wishes were tendered the happy couple as they linger in the vestibule awaiting their carriage to take the train for Savannah and Tybee. Long in the memories of the people will remain this beautiful marriage, and one can but wish them all the happiness and good that the lovely beginning is but the promise of fulfillment.
