Mathis, of Buena Vista and Miss Jessie Lane, daughter of Maj. Tom Lane, of Macon, were married Wednesday morning at the home of the bride’s parents, and immediately boarded the train for Buena Vista, where the arrived the same afternoon at 5 o’clock. Doctor Mathis is the clerk of the Superior Court of this county, and a more clever, generous-hearted gentleman never lived. His life has been and is that of a typical Christian and what he is at his devotions on Sunday, he is the same every day in his office. No man in the county has a greater hold upon the affections of the people than he, and they love him, not for what he seems to be, but for what he is. Miss Jessie Lane, his bride, was one of the most accomplished young ladies of the Central City, and Dr. Mathis is to be congratulated on winning the heart and hand of one possessing so many womanly virtues and Christian graces. The string band intended serenading them Wednesday night, but one of its members was indisposed. The Patriot extends congratulations to the doctor and his bride.
