The Gordian knot was tied by Justice I.P. Blue. It was known for some time that Mr. White and Miss McMichael were making preparations to be married, as the groom had provided a cage for his bird, and the wedding garments had been got in readiness, but from some cause objection was raised by the family and Mr. White was denied the privilege of visiting at the home of his affianced. “Love laughs at locks and bars,” however, and where there is a will there is always a way. One had as well try to change the flow of the Mississippi river towards its source as to prevent two young people from marrying when they have firmly set their hearts in that direction. The night was dark and dreary, just such a night as is usually selected by rogues to break through and steal. A light rain was falling and the weeds and underbrush was very damp, but the ardor of the young lovers were not daunted. While the other young people of the house were attending a meeting of Epworth League at a neighbors the friends of Mr. White stole his affianced out the back way through a corn patch to the spot where the ceremony was performed. In his excitement Mr. White could not find his license and pulled out a package of love letters and handed them to the Justice saying, “Here you will find them somewhere among those papers.” After the ceremony the happy couple repaired to the home of the groom’s father, Captain J.D. White, where the congratulations of their friends were extended. The Patriot joins in congratulations, with the wish that their wedded life, which dawned so inauspiciously, will be as pleasant as a maiden’s dream. Reconciliation came promptly the next day and all is serene.
