The benefit Began in 1890, however no pensions were paid in 1891, from 1892 on they were paid yearly. Degree of Disability determined the Pension amount, a lost arm or Leg being worth $100 a year loss of use of a limb $50 per year down to $10 . A Limit was placed on the amount of assets a Veteran could have and still qualify for a pension Usually a claimant could have property valued at no more than $1500. A Soldier had to apply to the State Pension board and provide details of his service and witnesses as to his record and property holdings. In Later years the Pensions were expanded to cover Indigent Veterans and Widows. The State Paid Confederate pensions until the Late 1950's And at last report the State of Alabama was still paying one Widows pension. State Pension Office Approvals for various years (A Soldier could only be added to the roll with approval from the state office, usually a small white slip of paper sent to the ordinary of the Local Court) ******************************************* Widows Approved for 1912 N.J.
