McIntosh County Georgia Bios William Scott File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by GardenDot@aol.com Dottie Smith Table of Contents page: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/mcintosh.htm Georgia Table of Contents: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm WILLIAM SCOTT WILLIAM SCOTT received 50,000 acres of land in McINTOSH COUNTY 8 Dec.1794 with 50 separate deeds signed by Gov. Mathews. [I have all 50 pages from the GA State Archives but there is no plat or any descriptin that can really identify where that property begins or ends. ] Was this 50,000 acres granted at the same time McIntosh became a county?? Does McIntosh County have these land records and deeds in the County Courthouse?? My question: was this the Col. WILLIAM SCOTT, born VA 1752 married MARTHA, possibly Gorman, and lived and died Camden County, Sept. 6, 1816, the same person who was granted these 50,000 acres and where were they located ???? Was he the same Capt. William Scott who went to VA to recruit soldiers for the 2,3 and 4th.GA Batallion of Foot because GA could not raise enough troops for the Revolution???? Was he the same William Scott, Capt. of the Militia recorded in Florida Fiasco as fighting off the British when they embarked from Cumberland Island in 1815???? In the settlement of his estate in Camden County June/July 1819 his children were: MARY SCOTT, born 1789 in GA, who married 1810 ELIHU ATWATER, attorney, born CT 1776, practiced law in Camden, Glynn, maybe McIntosh ROBERT G. SCOTT, born Dec. 22, 1791 in GA, graduated Williaim and Mary VA and in 1810 married SUSAN RANDOLPH MADISON and practiced law in Richmond VA, died in AL. Robert G. and his son Charles Lewis Scott were very visible as lawyers in Richmond WILLIAM SCOTT, JR born Oct. 4, 1793 and married SUSANNAH LOUISA OSMONT, he served as Tax Collector for Camden County and was in arrears for abt.$5,000 by 1812 JAMES SCOTT born Nov. 4, 1795 in possibly McIntosh County and married 1818 MARGARET ELIZABETH BAILEY and moved to Jefferson County, FL MARTHA REBECCA SCOTT born Nov. 1797 and married 1824 ALFRED DOLITTLE of Vermont ELIZABETH McINTOSH SCOTT, BORN 1799, married first JAMES COLWELL DILWORTH; (and SARAH REBECCA LEWIS SCOTT who died as an infant). I am presently working on a manuscript (not for commercial publication) on my Great Grandfather JOSEPH HENRY SEABROOK of SC who came to Gadsden County FL in 1829. His third wife's grandfather was COL. WILLIAM SCOTT, my GrGrGr Grandfather. I have done extensive research and have among other family information, picture albums and family bible records which I will be glad to share.
