NOLTON BLACK OF DARIEN, LOSE LIVES AT TOWNSEND ----- Mr. and Mrs. Nolton Black, aged Darien couple, were instantly killed yesterday afternoon when the automobile in which they were riding was struck by the Silver Meteor of the Seaboard Air Line at Townsend, north of Darien. Both died instantly. Mr. Black, it was said, was almost 70 years of age and his wife a few years younger. The accident was investigated by Coroner Archie Davis, of McIntosh County. He said today that his investigation revealed that Mr. and Mrs. Black were traveling west and their car had stopped near the railroad crossing for a freight train, which was at Townsend at the time. Just as the freight train cleared the crossing, the McIntosh coroner said, Mr. Black started across the tracks, not observing the approaching passenger train which was headed north. Just as the auto was on the crossing it was struck by the fast train and both occupants died instantly, their bodies being terribly mangled. The automobile was knocked for some distance and completely wrecked. The bodies of Mr. and Mrs. Black were later brought to Brunswick and are at the funeral parlors of the Gibson-Hart Funeral Home awaiting funeral arrangements. It was stated the both Mr. and Mrs. Black had previously been married and both have children by the former marriages. Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending the arrival of their children. Coroner Davis said the couple had resided in Darien for many years and were well known among many friends. Mr. Black held religious meetings at various times, he said, and at the time of the accident he was en route to a point west of Townsend to conduct services last night.
