GAULT SR. The Brunswick News 7/27/2004 James Ray Gault, Sr., 72, died at his home, July 26, 2004, with his loving wife by his side after a long struggle with cancer. He was a retired boat captain of the Skidaway Institute of Oceanography R.V. Blue Fin and the University of Georgia R.V. Kit Jones on Sapelo Island. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy after serving his country for four years, including fighting in the Korean War on the U.S.S. Princeton. He was an avid fisherman, boatsman, gardener and "the best husband, daddy, and grandaddy in the whole wide world". He was loved by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of more than 45 years, Frances Evangeline "Vangie" Speer Gault of Darien; his son, James Ray Gault, Jr. of Darien, his grandson, James Ray Gault, III of Darien; his daughter, Mary Linda Gault Hinson and her husband James Steven Hinson, Sr. of Brunswick; his granchildren James Steven Hinson, Jr. Sarah Elizabeth Hinson and Laura Catherine Hinson, all of Brunswick; his father Raymond Lee Gault of Darien; three brothers Charles Gault, Harold Gault and Boyd Gault; a sister, Daisy Bowers; ten sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He loved his God, having served as deacon and in several other capacities at the First Baptist Church in Darien. He loved his wife, his boats and his garden. The funeral service will be held in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, with interment following in Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetary. Pallbearers will be Ritchie Ryals, Glynn Hutchinson, John Korrow, Woodrow Sessoms, Wayne Hornbeck, and Robert Brown. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Rudolf Nunnemann and staff, Dr. Scott Kellogg and staff, Dr. Robert Hawkins and staff, the Hospice of the Golden Isles staff, Dr. James Snow and staff, Dr. and Mrs. Paul Bodamer and staff, Chris May, Darien Pharmacy, Gary Gault, Lewis Strickland, Ralph Strickland, Jeff McGee, Jody Howard, nephews, and Paul Purcell, Jerry Sapp, and friends.
