He was one of 7 known children born to William Dollar and Ruth Beezley/Beasley. His father William was a Revolutionary War soldier from Virginia. Joseph and his family moved to South Carolina to Laurens District. Joseph married Hannah Prather in Laurens County, South Carolina about the year 1811. He and Hannah began raising a family. He was a farmer. After 1830 Joseph and his brother, William Jr. moved to Georgia. Joseph moved to Meriwether County,Georgia between 1830 and 1832. Joseph bought land in Meriwether on July the 12th 1832 from Jethro Hamlin. This land was 202 1/2 acres in the 7th District formerly Troup but at that time Meriwether County. This land was in the western part of the county near the Troup County line. Joseph departed life on the 29th of June in the year 1833. The place of his burial is not known. The land that he owned was plat #171 in the 7th District. Joseph had many children. The estate administration was finalized in 1856 after the death of his wife, Hannah, in 1853. His son, Harper H. Dollar was Administrator of the estate.
