They migrated from Putnam County, Georgia sometime after their marriage in 1819. Hugh was born July 29, 1798 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, where his parents, Hugh and Eleanor Walton Ector, had originally migrated to from Wake County, North Carolina in 1784. Soon, the family moved again, settling in Putnam County, Georgia, west of Eatonton, where they set up housekeeping and raised their eight children. Dolly Duncan was born around 1801, the daughter of Matthew Duncan and Sarah Napier Duncan, neighbors of the Ectors in Putnam County. Hugh Walton Ector served as Brigadier General in the Georgia State Militia. When approval came for the formation of Meriwether County, an election was held at the home of Hugh and Dollie Ector on February 1, 1828 to elect Judges and other county officers. The First Superior Court of Meriwether County was also held at their home, then a log cabin near the present village of Primrose Allie, a few miles north of Greenville, Georgia. When an Act to incorporate the town of Greenville was approved on December 20, 1828, land for the town was donated by Hugh Walton Ector. Seven children were born to Hugh and Dolly from 1820 to 1839. The eldest, Walton B. Ector, was born August 24, 1820. Walter served in the Confederate Army during the war, sometimes listed as Walter B. Ector. He later married Antoinette Bray in 1839. They had four children, Hugh Kossuth, Julia Walton, Dorothy Duncan, and Walton Bray. Walton was a resident of Meriwether County until his death in 1862, and both he and Antoinette are buried in the Greenville City Cemetery. Second was Matthew Duncan Ector, born February 28, 1822. Matthew migrated to Texas in 1849. He served as a Brigadier General in the Confederate Army, and returned to Texas after the war where he practiced law and served as a judge. He was married three times: Mary Louisa Phillips, Letitia Graham and Sallie Parish Chew, and had a total of ten children, Jennie Ellen, Walton Hugh, Letitia, Matthew D. Jr., Walker D., William Chew, Paul Cecil, Anna, and Helen Marian. Third was Hugh Walton Ector, Jr. born in 1824. He married Sarah Springer in 1848, moved to Texas after becoming a physician, but had a stroke soon after. The couple then returned to Meriwether County, where Hugh Jr. died at the young age of 30. They had no children. Fourth was Wiley Benjamin Ector, born April 4, 1827. Wiley served in the Mexican-American War of 1846-1848, and in the Civil War as a Major. He married Ellen Wolfe in 1856 in Cherokee, TX, and they had two children, William and Helen. John J. Ector was the fifth child of Hugh and Dolly Ector, born in 1832. John married Martha Maffett in 1851, and they also moved to Texas. John and Martha had two children, Mary and Carolina. The sixth child of Hugh and Dolly was a daughter, Mary Ann Ector, born in 1834. Mary Ann married Edmund G. Philips of Coweta County, GA. They migrated to Texas and had at least three daughters: Jenny, Dolly and Louisa. Benton Baxter Ector was the seventh and youngest child of Hugh and Dolly, born April 6, 1835, only five days before the death of his father. Hugh Walton Ector died April 11, 1835 at the age of 37 due to illness. Dolly Duncan Ector died September 18, 1848.
