Boyd Guardian for his minor children and being duly sworn deposes and says that the above return is true as stated. Sworn and subscribed in open Court this Jany 1845 John B. Boyd D.C. Gresham C.C.O. Additional Comments: John B. Boyd, b. abt 1805 in S.C., was the son of John and Eleanor Boyd, probably from Abbeville Dist., S.C., as he is named in court documents there in 1836 as being the son of John and “Elenor” Boyd, and in later documents as the brother of Adam Boyd, deceased by 1845. John B. Boyd administered the estate of his father in Meriwether County, Georgia, beginning in January of 1837 and ending in September of 1840. The final distribution included Elenor Boyd, Ebenezer Boyd, Jean (Jane) Boyd, Hannah Boyd, Hugh Boyd (guardian of Adam Boyd), William Campbell (guardian of Robert Boyd), Alexander Boyd, William Boyd, and John B. Boyd. Each distributee received about $32. Administration of the estate of John Boyd also is recorded in Abbeville District, giving William Campbell as the administrator and listing the same legatees, on page 19 of the book, “ Abstracts of Old Ninety-Six and Abbeville District Wills and Bonds” by Willie Pauline Young of Liberty, South Carolina, © 1950 by Pauline Young and the Rev. Silas Emmett Lucas, Jr. The same book on page 40 gives the guardianship of Adam Boyd by Hugh Boyd, and of Robert Boyd by William Campbell. Adam Boyd is mentioned as a deceased minor. Settlement of Adam’s estate was made in 1845 in Abbeville. John B. Boyd’s first wife, name unknown, apparently died before 1838. Also, records above show his children receiving funds from the estate of Edmund Beasley of Abbeville. One of John’s older sons was named Edmund (as named in original guardianship papers.) John B. Boyd most likely married (second) Edna Williams in Meriwether County on 10 April 1838 (Marriage Book A, page 37). He appears in the 1840 census on page 137 (same page as Alexander Boyd), and in the 1850 census with Edna and children Nancy E., Martha Jane, Mary E., Joseph, Lolly A., Lisa P., Sarah C., Midy, Lucretia C. and John R. Boyd. John and Edna moved to Carroll County, GA, where John died about 1855. His estate was administered in Carroll County and mentioned his wife, Edna, and eight minor children (not named). Edna (Adney) is shown there with the children in the 1860 census. All the above information was copied from original books in the Probate Office, Greenville, Meriwether County, Georgia.
