Floyd CSC Additional Comments: Robert H. Boyd, b. 1791, was the son of Hugh and Jennett Boyd of Newberry County, SC. He came to Meriwether County sometime before 1838 with his wife, Cloretta Gray Boyd (daughter of Frederick Gray and Cloretta Dawkins), and purchased nearly 400 acres of land in the Upper Ninth District. William H.B. Boyd, above, is one of his sons, shown in the 1840 Meriwether County census. Benjamin White, whose land was adjacent, was the husband of Robert H. Boyd's daughter, Julia Boyd. (Source: Bible records of Robt. H. Boyd and McDuffie C. Boyd) Of the witnesses, Hugh Boyd is either the Hugh Boyd, son of Robert Boyd and Rosannah Stewart, or Hugh H. Boyd, son of William Boyd and Rosannah Boyd, although Hugh H. would have only been about 23 when the deed was originally transferred. L.D. Groce was Lewis Dudley Groce who married Melinda Boyd, daughter of William and Rosanna (Boyd) Boyd. Rosanna Boyd, wife of William, was a sister to the above Robert H. Boyd. (Source: Will and annual returns of Matthew Boyd (of Newberry, SC), brother of Rosanna Boyd Boyd and Robert H. Boyd.) Robert H. Boyd died in 1857 in Meriwether County and this deed was apparently held until 1885, when it was officially filed and recorded with the court. One year after this land was transferred from Robert H. to William H,B, Boyd (1850), W.H.B. Boyd transferred 101 1/4 acres in the same land lot and district back to Robert H. Boyd, who sold it to his other son, McDuffie C. Boyd. (See pp. 277 and 278, same deed book as above.) The deed to McDuffie specifically mentions it as being the west half of land lot 271. This land today (Lot 271) is bisected by Sullivan Road (formerly Wimbush-Barrett Road) and is only a few hundred yards west of the Flint River.
