ESHOM 21 AUG 1856 (not recorded until 1862) (acreage was not stated and is unknown; exception made for public right of way from Sullivan’s Store to north of Line Creek) Copied from Deed Book L, Offices of the Superior Court, Greenville, Meriwether County, Georgia By Judy Fowler Kilgore JodieK444@aol.com ____________________________ Meriwether County Deed Book L, page 622 Georgia Meriwether County This indenture made and entered into this twenty first day of August in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight [the word “hundred” omitted]& fifty six between William Boyd of the County of Carroll of the first part, and William C. Eshom of the County of Meriwether of the Second part – witnesseth, that the said William Boyd for and in consideration of the sum of thirteen hundred dollars to him in hand paid at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained & sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said William C, Eshom his heirs and assigns all that part or parcel of land known as fractional lot Number Two Hundred & Eighty four in the Ninth District of Originally Troup now Meriwether County. Except the right of way for a private or public Road of twenty feet width from Sullivans Store in said County to the north of Line Creek which is hereby reserved unto the said William Boyd his heirs and assigns, for the use of the neighborhood and the public. To have and to hold the said bargained premises unto him the said William C. Eshom his heirs and assigns forever in fee simple And the said William Boyd for himself his heirs Executors and Administrators the right and title of the said bargained premises unto the said William C. Eshom his heirs and assigns will warrant and forever defend against the the [sic] claims of himself his heirs executors and administrators and against the claims of all persons whatever. Williams Clk Additional Comments: William Boyd was the son of Robert Boyd and Rosannah Stewart, of Newberry Dist., S.C. and Meriwether County, GA, and was married to Rosanna Boyd, daughter of Hugh and Jennet Boyd of Newberry Dist., S.C. William Boyd died intestate in Carroll County, Georgia, about 1857 and this deed was not recorded until after his death. His son, Hugh H. Boyd, administered his estate, with his son-in-law, Lewis Dudley Gross (husband of William's daughter, Melinda Boyd), as security. Land Lot 284 is a fractional lot on the Flint River (east), adjacent to Land Lots 283 (south), 278 (west) and 285 (north). The upper northeast corner of this lot touches Line Creek where it flows into the Flint River. All these Land Lots are in the Upper Ninth District of Meriwether in the extreme northeastern corner of the county. Although a 1910 map of Meriwether shows the public right-of-way (road) left by William leading to the river and Sullivan's Mill (store), the road is no longer there.
