OWEN SELLS 152.5 ACRES IN LAND LOT 153 OF THE 10TH DISTRICT TO SPENCER MALONE Meriwether County Deed Book K, page 420-421 Photocopied from original deed book Georgia} Meriwether County} This indenture made this third day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty nine between Coleman P. Owen of the county & state aforesaid of the one part and Spencer Malone of the same place of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Coleman P. Owen for and in consideration of the sum of five hundred & fifty dollars to him in hand paid at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained, & sold and does by these presents grant bargain & sell & convey unto the said Spencer Malone his heirs and assigns all that tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in the Tenth District of the County of Troup but now Meriwether County known & distinguished in the plan of said District as number one hundred & fifty three (153) all of said lot but fifty acres on the North side of said lot & all the South part of one hundred & fifty two & half acres more or less with all the rights member & appurtenances thereunto belonging To have & to hold the aforementioned part of lot of land unto him the said Spencer Malone his heirs & assigns together with all the rights members & appurtenances --?-- thereunto said part of lot of land in any --?-- belonging to his & their own proper use and benefit & behoof forever in fee simple. And the said Coleman P. Owen for himself his heirs executors & administrators the said bargained premises together with the right --?-- & possession thereof unto the said Spencer Malone his heirs & assigns will warrant & forever defend the right & title thereof against themselves & against the claim of all other persons whatever. Additional Comments: The Grantor index at the courthouse gives the amount of acreage as only 50 acres, but given the price and wording of the deed, I would interpret the acreage as being 152.5 acres. This land is about three miles south of the town of Rocky Mount. Greenville-to-Rocky Mount Road runs through the southeastern corner.
