Owen late of said county deceased after public notice as required made in Meriwether county Vindicator Newspaper published in the town of Greenville we Bricy M. Owens and Charles C. Owens duly constituted Executors of the last Will & Testament of said Coleman P. Owens decd did put up and expose to sale the highest bidder before the court House door at Greenville in said county between the legal hours of sale on the first Tuesday in October being the third day of said month in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred & seventy six for cash One hundred & forty two & one half acres of land more or less off of lot No. Seventy (70) in the tenth District of said county, being all of said Lot except fifty acres off of the eastern side of said lot and also with the exception of ten acres off of the North west (Page 348) corner of said lot when John D. Hopkins being the highest & best bidder said parcel of land was marked off to him at and for the price of three hundred and five dollars. Now therefore this indenture made this the third day of Oct 1876 between said Bicy (sic) M. Owens & Charles C. Owens of said County Executors of the last Will & Testament of said Coleman P. Owen late of said county decd of the one part and said John D. Hopkins of the other part Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred & five dollars cash in hand paid at and before the sealing & delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged said Brycey (sic) M. Owens & Charles C. Owens Executors as aforesaid have granted bargained and sold & conveyed and do by these presents grant bargain sell and convey unto the said John D. Hopkins his heirs & assigns executors & administrators all that lot of land situate lying and being in the tenth Dist. of said county known and distinguished by the Number Seventy (70) except fifty acres off of the Eastern side of said Lot & also except ten acres off of the North western corner of said lot, said parcel of land embracing after the above exceptions are taken off one hundred and forty two & one half acres more or less with all the rights members & appurtenances to said parcel of land in any wise appertaining or belonging to have and to hold said parcel of land unto him the said John D. Hopkins his heirs executors administrators & assigns in fee simple. In testimony whereof the said Bricy M. Owens & Charles C. Owens Executors as aforesaid have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year above written. Signed sealed and delivered in presence of Bricy M. Owens (Seal) Charles C. Owen's complete will may be found under "Wills" on this site. He was the son of Brice Marshall Owen and Sarah Law (or Lane) who were married in 1812 in Jasper County, GA. Coleman married Charlotte (Lottie) Allen in 1830 in Walton County and moved to Meriwether with his parents. Coleman and Lottie had four children: Mary Ann Owen (m. William Thomas Cole); William L. Owen (m. Dorluska Conner); Charles C. Owen (m. Nancy Conner); and Bricy Marshall Owen (m. first, Mary Clay Carreker, second, Ida E. Whatley Powell, and third, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Jackson Perkins). Although there are no marked graves, Coleman and Charlotte are probably buried at Bethel Baptist Church at Rocky Mount in northern Meriwether County. Many of his descendants lived in neighboring Pike and Coweta Counties.
