Kemp and A. H. Baskin who are personally known to me to be credible citizens, who being by me duly sworn on oath, state that they personally know E. Gray the above named applicant for a pension and that they personally know that the said E. G. Mann 1. What are your names, ages, post offices? John Taylor Brown and H. G. Mann, 60 and 62 respectively, Raleigh, Meriwether County, Georgia 2. Do you personally know or did you know E. Gray? Yes. We have known E. Gray from his boyhood. 3. How long have you know the said E. Gray? We have known him for 50 years. We first knew him in Meriwether County, Georgia. 4. Do you personally know that the said E. Gray, applicant for pension, enslisted in the service of the Confederacy and performed the duties of a soldier? We do. 5. Do you personally know in what company and regiment the said E. Gray enlsited and served in the Confederate Army? Yes, we know he enlisted in Co. E 28th Regiment Georgia Volunteers September 1861, Griffin Georgia and he served until the surrender in the Virginia Army for 3 1/2 years or more. 6. Do you further know that the said E. Gray is unable to support himself by labor of any sort? We do not know what his present physical condition is, not having seen him for many years. Cross interrogations: 1. State whether you know or knew of any other soldier or sailor by the name of E. Gray: We never knew but one E. Gray, we was in the same Company and Regiment with him. 2. Are you positively certain that said E. Gray is the identical person serving as testified by you? Yes, we know that E. Gray was in same Company and Regiment with us and we knew no other E. Gray 3. If you have answered Int.#6 in the affirmative please state the source of your knowledge. Is not this your answer simply based on conjecture? We could not answer Int.#6 in the affirmative for reasons stated. 4. Do you know whether or not the said E. Gray ever deserted the service in the Confederate Army? E.
