State Archives & History] From Atlanta Journal 18 January 1927 Dr. William Rufus McCrary, Alvaton Georgia Founder, Claimed By Death Dr. William R. McCrary, prominent retired physician of 407 Sycamore Street, Decatur, former resident of Meriwether County, Georgia died Tuesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Luther Hill Randall Sr., 2106 Ponce de Leon Avenue, N.E. Dr. McCrary was born December 15, 1861, and resided for the greater part of his life in Senoia, Georgia and Alavaton, Georgia where he was a physician and likewise had large farming interests. On June 12, 1890, he married Miss. Frances Helena “Lena” Pinkston, of Greenville, Georgia. She survives him, as well as a son, Alva Pinkston McCrary; his daughter Mrs. Randall; two grandchildren, Helen McCrary Randall and Luther Hill Randall Jr., and two brothers, John Alva McCrary, a director of the federal reserve bank of Atlanta, and Joseph B. McCrary. Dr. McCrary was instrumental in interesting the A. B. & A Railway in running their lines through his section of Meriwether County, and he was the founder of Alvaton, located on his property and named after his son. He was a member of the Senoia Methodist church, where the funeral services will be held at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon. Dr. J. W.
