Senoia, Ga., March 9 (Special) Uncle Joel Herndon, a highley respected citizen of near Haralson, died at his home early Saturday morning of a complication of stomach troubles. He had been sick for several weeks, and his death was not unexpected. He was 78 years of age and leaves a wife and three children. Mr. Herndon had lived in Coweta county for the past fifty-five years [ca 1852]. He was a brave confederate soldier. The internment took place Saturday afternoon at Haralson Baptist cemetery, Rev. W. A. Davis conducting the funeral service. Additional Comments: Son of Edward Herndon & Nancy Brown. He was born 19 October 1829 in Elbert Co., Georgia. He married Elizabeth C. Kempson, daughter of Benjamin Kempson & Elizabeth Long, on 12 March 1852 in Meriwether Co., Georgia. Served with Company G, 53rd Georgia Volunteer Infantry "Georgia Rebels" He was the father of nine children: Amanda, Nancy, Mary, Preston, Laura, William, Ella, Benjamin, and an Unnamed Infant.
