Lovett was born March the 27th, 1866, and died October the 25th, 1887, aged 21 years and seven months. The many acquaintances of Walter W. Lovett admired him. Those knowing him esteemed and loved him. His was a well-rounded symmetrical character. Handsome in feature, magnificent physique, a well balanced mind, amiable disposition, generous, trustful, sympathetic by nature, cultivation, and practice, it is not surprising he was popular and loved---that he should be missed and mourned. Early in life he joined the M.E. Church South. At an early morning during the dying hours of evening he lived up to his convictions. His was a consistent, Christian life. He was a young man of good business judgement. He was full of energy, he was attentive and courteous to customers and was a fine salesman. While Griffin and Atlanta tried to obtain his services, his beautiful devotion to his parents and especially to his mother caused him to cast his lot in Greenville---that he might be near his home and loved ones. Said an employer to me, “Walter was one of the best boys taken all in all that I knew. I never heard him utter a word that would bring a blush to the cheek of modesty. He was the best boy I ever had in my employ and I can never have again the service of his equal.” His father remarked to me, “his conduct was never a cause of solicitude to me. I felt assured from his well established habits during boyhood that I should never cause of fear concerning his manhood.” His mother wrote, “Walter never gave me an unkind word. From early childhood he was pious and true to his church vows. It is hard to give him up, but no mother every gave a brighter jewel to heaven than dear Walter.” It is certainly a good omen that Walter Lovett’s last night upon earth had ceased just as with the birth of a new sun his soul was freed from bondage. How glorious the scene as he left this world and entered into the realms of eternal Light. There is no night, no ailments there but all is pure, perfect, beautiful. The centuries of bliss have just begun for him. His parents and family have our sympathies, but what an honor has been _________ them in giving such a ________ to Heaven. It s allowed them to ________ Walter again. May the good Shepherd gather them unto that fold. NOTES: Walter was the son of John Cuthbert Lovett and Julia W. Darden Lovett. He was born March 27, 1866 in Meriwether County and died October 25, 1887. Walter is buried in the Lovett/Darden Cemetery between Greenville and Gay, Georgia.
