McCASLAN Judge R.M. McCaslan, one of Meriwether's oldest and most prominent citizens, died Friday at his home in Greenville. He had been in poor health for several months and while able to be up the greater part of the time, there was little hope of his recovery. Death came rather suddenly at last, and caused genuine grief throughout Meriwether county where he was universally esteemed. For twenty-nine years he filled the office of County School Commissioner and during this period he built up one of the best rural school systems in the state. He had been twice married, his second wife being Miss Willie Hill of Coweta county, who, with a young son, survives him. At the time of his death he was 75 years of age. Rev. J.E. Hannah of this city went down to Greenville and conducted the funeral on Saturday morning after which the remains were brought to Newnan for interment. A brief service at the grave was conducted by Dr. Jas. Stacy. Additional Comments: Buried next to wife, Willie Hill McCaslan, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.
