Lydia Newby Obituary 1773-1860 ____________ County, GA -Transcription by Bill Stephenson Southern Christian Advocate September 13, 1860 p.4 Mrs. Lydia Newby was born in Edgefield Dist., S.C. in 1773; was married 1791; embraced religion 1797, and died 17th July, 1860, aged 87 years. At the time she embraced religion, there being no Methodist Church convenient, she joined none other, but remained a convert out of the Church until one was organized in the year 1818. She was not only a consistent member, but truly a Christian; serving the Lord with all her heart for 63 years, and a member of the Church for 42 years. She attended regularly to the preaching of the Word and class-meeting, rendering obedience to the commands of her Lord, who hath promised to all such everlasting life, which reward she now realizes. A day or two before her death she praised God in triumph through faith in Christ, and then passed away to join the Church triumphant. - W.S.
