WATSON AT REST After several weeks illness of pneumonia, Mr. H.L. Watson entered into rest last Thursday morning (10 January 1907). The funeral services were conducted from the Presbyterian church Friday morning by Rev. K.L. McIver, the pastor, assited by Rev. George Stoves. The house was taxed to seat the large number who sought to pay a last tribute to the memory of this good man. The remains were interred in the cemetery in this city. Mr. Watson was born in Meriwether County, Georgia, 69 years ago. He enlisted in the 41st Georgia Infantry in the beginning of the civil war and served til the close. He moved to Roanoke in 1890. He leaves a widow, one son, R.L. Watson at Tuskegee and one daughter Mrs. B.L. Cameron of LaGrange, all of whom were with the deceased when the end came. Mr. Watson was a life long member of the Presbyterian church and was an elder in the church here at the time of his death. He was a gentleman of the old type and his life was a worthy example to the young. The country is poorer when such characters as Mr. Watson pass away. May his memory long linger with us.
