Will of Calvin J. Blalock 10 Aug 1847 Meriwether County, GA Book A, page 119 Calvin J. Blalock’s will Georgia, Meriwether County} Know all men by these presents that I, Calvin J. Blalock of the County of Madison and State of Mississippi being of sound & disposing mind make this my last will and testament. Item 1. I give and bequeath unto my brother Zadack Blalock of the County of Madison State of Mississippi all my interest in the groceries belonging to the firm of Blalock & Thompson in Canton, Madison County & state just aforesaid. The debts owing by said firm to be paid out of the effects of said grocery. Item 2nd I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife during her natural life the following property viz. my interest in a Negro man named Edmond about twenty one years of age, yellow complexion. Kendall a man forty four years of age dark complexion said Negros belonging to the firm of myself and Wm. G. Thompson . Also my Negro woman Ardena about twenty five years of age yellow complexion, Mary & her child Horace, Mary about twenty years of age , dark complexion, Horace about twelve months old. Mahala a girl about eight or nine years of age, dark complexion. Also Ann a girl about two years of age. Also a town lot in the town Canton adjoining the Methodist Church, Madison County Mississippi, and all my stock consisting of horses, cows, hogs & household and kitchen furniture & all my effects whatever not otherwise disposed of to remain in the possession of my wife during her natural life. After all my just debts are paid and at her death said property to be equally divided one money [?] to go to my brother and sister and to be equally divided among them (they being the heirs of Zadock Blalock of Fayette County Georgia) the other money[?] to go to the legal representatives of my wife Ann. Item 3rd I hereby constitute and appoint E. Ce___ & B. Blalock executors of this my last will and testament this 10th day of August 1847. Signed sealed declared and published by C. J. Blalock, dec’d and the testimony taken by you together with the will aforesaid will return to this court under your proper hand and seal by on or before the second Monday of December next having first given ten days notice of the time and place of taking said testimony of Wm. F. Blalock, Jacob S. Blalock, Jess L. Blalock, Susan M. Blalock, Lewis F. Blalock, Rachel Blalock, Caroline Blalock, Ailsy N. Clasty[?], and Elizabeth W. Spence children and heirs at law of Zadock Blalock of the County of Fayette and State of Georgia. Sworn first and have you ... then this court. Issued October 28, 1847 Georgia, Meriwether County} By virtue of a commission to us directed by the Honorable the Probate Court of Madison County in the State of Mississippi we have caused Jas. A. Russell & John V. Moore two of the witnesses in said commission named to come before us and each of whom being duly sworn deposed and saith. That he saw Calvin J. Blalock sign seal publish and declare the annexed instrument to be his last will and testament. That they signed the same in the presence of the testator and in the presence of each other as subscribing witnesses. That the said Calvin was of sound mind at the time, and that as far as they know he was not induced to make said will by the influence of any person or persons whatever, but executed the same properly and without any undue influence.
