All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Kilgore JodieK444@aol.com April 25, 2008, 12:12 am Source: Meriwether County Will Book A, Page 179 Written: March 19, 1853 Recorded: July 3, 1854 State of Georgia} Meriwether County} I Hannah Groce being feeble of body but of strong disposing mind & memory calling to mind the uncertainty of life & the certainty of death that it hath been appointed unto all men once to die after that to judgment I do therefore make this my last will and testament First of all I will my soul to God who gave it & my body to be buried in a Christian like manner. 2nd I want all my just debts to be paid out of my estate by my surviving Executors hereinafter named. It 3rd I give and bequeath unto my beloved son Ellison Groce one half of my share of the estate of Polly Sudduth late of Lincoln County deceased. An estimate to be made by the amount I receive from said estate together with the lawful interest in such amount from the time I receive it until paid over by my Executors to be paid in cash. Item 4th I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Nancy Bridges the following property to wit. Huldah a slave about twenty seven years of age together with her increase except the child she is now pregnant with. Delphia a girl slave about two years of age [together with her increase crossed out] & William a boy slave about fifteen years of age. Item 5th I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Sarah Jenkins the following property to wit. Andrew a boy slave about fifteen years of age. Ellick a boy slave about fifteen years of age. Jerry a boy slave about nine years of age and Jacob a boy slave about five years of age also the child Huldah is pregnant with at this time if born alive. Item 6th I give and bequeath unto my beloved Grandson William Dudley Groce a son of my beloved son Dudley Groce deceased the sum of four hundred dollars to be paid out of the balance of my estate not otherwise disposed of to be kept in the hands of my Executors or controlled by them in interest until my son [sic] William Dudley Groce shall become twenty one years of age then paid over to him or otherwise in case he should die before he arrives at the age of twenty one years then the said four hundred dollars together with the lawful interest & therein be equally divided between my two daughters Nancy Bridges and Sarah Jenkins. Item 7th I give and bequeath to my granddaughter Mary Bridges one feather bed & furniture & Bedstead. Item 8th I give unto my granddaughter Sarah Kerilen Jenkins one feather bed & furniture & Bedstead. Item 9th I want my land whereon I now live together with all my stock & household & kitchen furniture and all of my estate not otherwise disposed of to be sold and after reserving out the necessary sums of money to pay the amounts before named and other expenses if there should be any left I want it equally divided between my two daughters Nancy Bridges and Sarah Jenkins. Item 10th All the slaves before mentioned together with their increase as given to my two daughters Nancy Bridges and Sarah Jenkins the right and title shall be vested in them the said Nancy Bridges and Sarah Jenkins during their natural life & then to the heirs of their bodies to be equally divided amongst them. Item 11th I hereby appoint Wm. C. Rosser and Allen Rowe Executors to this my last will and testament with a request that he carry out the same agreeable to the true intent and meaning thereof. Tarver Hannah (her X mark) Groce (Seal) Meriwether County Minutes, Book 2, Page 435 Meriwether County Court of Ordinary, July Term 1854 [Justices convened 3 July 1854] The last will and Testament of Hannah Groce late of said county decd having been proven at this regular term in open Court upon the oaths of Amannel Finley, Peter Tarver, and Lawrence H. Tarver the three subscribing witnesses to said last will and Testament ~ ordered that the same be admitted to record. D.C. Gresham O.M.C. Additional Comments: Other probate records pertaining to this estate: [EXECUTOR SWORN] Wm. C. Rosser one of the Executors nominated & appointed in the last will & Testament of Hannah Groce late of said county decd appeared this day in Open Court and made known his acceptance of said appointing, whereupon the said William C. Rosser was duly sworn according to law as such Executor. Therefore ordered that letters testamentary do issue to the said William C. Rosser and that his name be entered upon the dockett of the Court as such Executor. D.C. Gresham O.M.C. [ESTATE APPRAISERS APPOINTED] Ordered That Amannel Finley, Charles C.B. Zuber, Peter Tarver, John Wright and James C. Johnson be and they are hereby appointed appraisers of the Estate of Hannah Groce late of said County decd. D.C. Gresham O.M.C. Meriwether County Minutes, Book 2, Page 439 Meriwether County Court of Ordinary, August Term 1854 [Justices convened 7 August 1854] Ordered That William C. Rosser the Executor to the last will and testament of Hannah Groce late of said county decd have leave and be allowed to sell the perishable property belonging to the estate of said decd by his giving the notice of such sale as required by law in such cases.
