Although this company was formed in 1861 with men from
Habersham County, a number of recruits from Cobb County were
added during early 1862

Gap, Md, Exchanged 10/2/1862, Sick at various hospitals until
his death 5/17/1863 at Richmond's Buchanan hospital from
disease

P Augustus C Alley - Enlisted 3/1/1862, WIA 12/13/1862 at
Fredericksburg, Surrendered 4/9/1865 at Appomattox

Henry D Ayres - Enlisted 6/11/1861, Age 40, Received medical
discharge 10/22/1862, 1906 Roster Commission roll states that
he died at home from disease

Noah Ballew - Enlisted 6/25/1861, Age 18, Discharged 8/1/1861

Elihu S Barclay - Enlisted 6/11/1861 as Captain, Age 29,
Promoted to Major 7/6/1862, Severely wounded (spine and ankle)
and captured 9/14/1862 at Fox's Gap, Md, Exchanged late 1862,
Promoted to Lt Colonel 12/13/1862 but did not return to active
duty until 5/10/1863, Effects of wound forced him to drop out
of Gettysburg campaign, Resigns commission 8/5/1863, Elected to
Ga Legislature in November 1863, Resignation accepted by War
Dept effective 12/31/1863, Born at Clarkesville, Habersham
County Ga 5/24/1832, Died 3/6/1879 at Darien, Ga, Buried there
at St Andrews Cemetery, His older brother William was Colonel
of the 23rd Ga Infantry and was KIA 9/17/1862 at Sharpsburg,
Md., His younger brother Julius was Captain of Co G of the 52nd
Ga Infantry and was KIA 7/22/1864 at the Battle of Atlanta

Appomattox 4/9/1865 (listed as A M Burr), Born 3/2/1842, Died

Ga Sharpshooter Battalion in May 1863, Captured 7/3/1863 at
Gettysburg and imprisoned at Fort Delaware until released
6/16/1865, Oath shows him to be 5'11" with dark hair and grey
eyes, Became a policeman in Taccoa, Ga and was killed in the
line of duty 5/10/1892 while trying to stop a bank robbery, Son

released 6/26/1865. Oath shows him to be 5'8" with brown hair
and blue eyes, Born 4/26/1837, Died 2/9/1904, Buried at Old
Clarkesville Cemetery in Habersham County

Benjamin Franklin Church - Enlisted 3/10/1863, Captured
6/1/1864 at Cold Harbor and imprisoned at Elmira NY until
exchanged 10/29/1864,  Final roll dated January 1865 lists him
as being AWOL, No further military record but genealogical
records show that he lived out his life in Habersham County,
dying 3/27/1904, Buried at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in
Habersham County, Born there 3/5/1827, Had previously enlisted
in Co A of the 2nd Ga Infantry 4/20/1861 and was discharged for
disability 1/8/1862, A record exists for him in the 2nd Ga
indicating he was captured & paroled at Augusta, Ga 5/8/1865

Charles E Clyde - Enlisted 6/11/1861, Age 19, Shown as 4th Sgt
on June 1862 roll, WIA 9/17/1862 at Sharpsburg, Md, MWIA and
captured at Gettysburg 7/2/1863, Died 7/20/1863 at Federal II
Corps hospital four miles southeast of Gettysburg from effects
of amputation of right leg, Body disinterred in 1872 and
reburied at Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Va.

O N Coker - Enlisted 3/1/1862, Age 18 in 1860 Cobb County
census, Died 9/30/1862 at Warrenton, Va of intermittent fever,
Buried at Warrenton Confederate Cemetery

B F Conger - Enlisted 3/1/1862, Roll dated 1/19/1864 shows him
"sick at hospital", Later 1864 rolls list him as "absent sick"
and "absent AWOL", Detailed to Winder hospital Richmond as a

released 6/28/1865, Oath shows him to be 6' with light brown
hair and hazel eyes

William M Jones - Enlisted 6/11/1861, Age 24, At Danville
hospital 6/17/1864 with gun shot wound and typhoid, Subsequent
rolls show him home on sick furlough then AWOL, No further
military record but we know he survived the war because he
filed a postwar pension application, Pension application states
he surrendered at Appomttox but he is not shown on the parole
roster, Born 1835, Died 10/12/1895

at Red Sulphur Springs, Va (now W Va) from typhoid, Death claim
filed by mother Eliza Jones

1/19/1864, Shown "home sick" on roll dated 10/5/1864 and AWOL
on later rolls, Medical records show him furloughed home
9/1/1864 suffering from chronic dysentery, Captured and paroled
5/18/1865 at Hartwell, Ga., Born 2/5/1822, Died 5/24/1903 in
Cornelia, Ga, Buried at Allens United Methodist Church Cemetery
in Douglas County Ga

Infantry, Transferred (or reenlisted December 1862 in Co C of
Legion infantry, Promoted Ordinance Sgt in 1863, Captured
4/5/1865 at Amelia Springs, Va and imprisoned at Point Lookout
until released 6/29/1865, Oath shows him to be 5'6" with dark
hair and hazel eyes

Lewis J Little - Enlisted 8/1/1861, Age 19, Last shown on
10/31/1861 roll "sick at Raleigh Court House", There is no
Legion record for him after this BUT he does reenlist in Co I
of the 24th Ga Infantry at Poplar Springs, Hall County, Ga on
6/28/1862, It is highly probable that he received a medical
discharge from the Legion in late 1861, He was wounded several
times and captured during his service with the 24th and
survived the war, Born 11/2/1843

William Little - Enlisted 6/25/1861, Age 25, teamster, Last
shown on January 1865 roll "home on furlough", Captured and
paroled at Anderson SC 5/5/1865

furlough", No further military record but he filed for Alabama
pension stating his age as 71 in 1907, Born in Rabun County Ga
in March 1836, Died 2/22/1912, Brother of John F Love
