RIFLE COMPANIES. 1836 Vol. 1 -- Page: 229 Sequential Number: 134 Type: AN ACT, Full Title: To incorporate a Rifle Company, in the county of Cherokee, to be known by the name and style of the Cherokee Rangers, and to extend to it, certain privileges, &c. Whereas, A Volunteer Military association will be formed in the county of Cherokee, under the name and style of the Cherokee Rangers; and whereas, the persons so associated under said name, are desirous of being incorporated: Sec. 1. Be it therefore enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Georgia in General Assembly mel, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the several persons and members of said association, and others who shall hereafter become members thereof, respectively, and the successors of officers and members thereof, shall be, and they are hereby declared a body corporate, by the name and style of the Cherokee Rifle Rangers, and by said name, shall have perpetual succession of officers and members, with power to make, alter, change, and amend, such by-laws and regulations as may be agreed on, and adopted by the officers and members of said Company, for the government of said association: Provided, such by-laws and regulations, be not contrary to the laws of this State and of the United States. Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the members of said Volunteer Company, shall be so organized, so as to be ready to meet any emergency which authorizes calling out the militia for the suppression of insurrection, or for repelling invasion: And provided further, that nothing herein contained, shall prevent the repeal of this act by a future Legislature. Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That it shall be the duty of the Captain or Commander who shall be ready at any call, or emergency, or insurrection, with all, or part of his command, as he may think proper so to do. Sec. 4. And be it further enacted, That all laws or parts of laws, militating against this act, be, and the same are hereby repealed. JOSEPH DAY, Speaker of the House of Representatives. ROBERT M.
