Kelley, who served as a Private in Capt. John Loyal's company, apparently known as the "Newton Grays". In most of the documents Capt. Loyal is referred to as Capt. Jack Loyal and on some documents his surname is spelled Loyall. Apparently Capt. Loyal was in the 2nd Regiment of the Georgia Volunteers, commanded by Col. John Williamson. On a Treasury Department form included with one of the Department of Interior's Bureau of Pension forms I found "The company was ordered into the service by Gov. Schley and was mustered July 7, 1836, by Maj. Felix Ansart U.S.A.". William T. Kelley enrolled and was mustered in on June 9, 1836 at Columbus, GA and was mustered out (Honorably Discharged) at Columbus, GA on July 7, 1836. However, he was paid for a period of "June 9 - July 19, 1836: 1 month and 11 days, including 12 days travel - 120 miles to place of rendezvous and 120 miles from place of discharge home". William T. Kelley was born September 24, 1817 in GA and died at his home near Romulus, Tuscaloosa Co., AL on December 15, 1896. He died as a result of a tree falling on him. He is buried at Romulus United Church Cemetery, Romulus, Tuscaloosa Co., AL. I am not certain when he moved to Alabama but he shows up in the 1840 Census of Tuscaloosa Co., AL. William T. Kelley was married twice. His first wife Mary S Roberson preceded him in death (August 27, 1818 - August 08, 1878). It is through William and Mary's daughter Nancy that I descend. He married Sarah S McDaniel on January 26, 1881 at her father Hamilton McDaniel's house Romulus, Tuscaloosa Co., AL. Although William T. Kelley made application for service pension the majority of the pension applications and General Affidavits concerns Sarah's survivor's or widow's pension. Included in the information that I received was a questionnaire that William T. Kelley filled out that told his previous and current wife's maiden names (I was not sure of Mary S Roberson maiden name until now) and a listing of children who were alive at the time, along with their birth dates. Needless to say I was overjoyed at receiving this information. Another form revealed that William T. Kelley served in the latter part of the Civil War in Co. G 3rd Regiment, Alabama Reserves - another fact that I did not know. Now I need to fill out NATF 80 to get the information on William T. Kelley's Bounty Land Warrant of 120 acres that he applied for, now that I know the record number. Richard Graham Oklahoma City
