At Picolata, which is situated on the St. Johns, there is but one house; this is garrisoned by the Savannah volunteers. It is surrounded by a double log fence, twenty feet high, with two six pounders in each corner. The Baldwin troop is expected to unite on its route with a troop from Houston, one from Hancock, one from Washington, and one from Monroe. These corps will then be orgnized as a squadron. We understand that volunteer companies of infantry or riflemen now are, or will soon be on their march for Florida, from the following counties; one from Lumpkin, one from Hall, one from Greene, one from Newnan, a second from Morgan, and a second from Putnam. From the following counties also, it is stated that companies have tendered themselves to the governor: from DeKalb, two; from Fayette, two; and one each from Carrol, Campbell, Coweta, Heard, Merriwether, Troup, and Lawrence. The companies from Hancock, Putnam, Morgan, Monroe, and Bibb, have been organized as a battalion, and have chosen captain Mark A. Cooper to its command.
