ARCHGA - Military/ 1812 I just reviewed your website regarding Ft. Hawkins. While researching the War of 1812 service of my ancestor, I found both Barnabas Meaders and Capt. Anderson's bounty land applications at the National Archives. Capt. Anderson's application says in part: "that he volunteered in the County of Franklin in the State of Georgia and entered the service of the united states at Fort Hawkins in the State of Georgia . . . ." Later, in a form declaration for a pension, Capt. Anderson (now 93 years old) says that he enlisted at Carnesville, GA and was discharged at Ft. Hawkins, Ga. This claim appears to have been accepted by the War Department after a review of his records. Barnabas Meaders submitted a claim for bounty land 18 April 1855 and said that he "volunteered on or about the 15th of November 1814 and was muster in to the United States Service at Fort Hawkins on or about the 30th day of November 1814 for the term of six months and continued in the Actual Servis in Said Ware for fourteen days and was honorably discharged at Fort Hawkins on the 23 day of April or thereabouts in1815." While there were slight discrepancies in some of the beginning and ending dates, it does appear from both of the above accounts that Capt. Anderson's company served for approximately six months during the period November 1814 until May 1815 at Ft. Hawkins Therefore, if you have a list of members of that company, you may wish to add them to people serving at Ft. Hawkins. At a minimum, please include Barnabas Meaders and Capt. Thomas F. Anderson to your list of people serving at the Fort. I have to do all Arnold's typing for him and after doing it for a living for more years than I care to mention, I still have to make myself do anything on the computer. Maybe I'll get over it in time but not yet. Re the county Arnold's ancestor lived in, it was and still is Baldwin Co. Yes, it was around Milledgeville. He was also in Captain Jett Thomas' Artillery Unit of the Georgia Militia from Baldwin Co., Milledgeville, from October 1813 to March 1814. No. was not able to locate him in the VA site. Found the unit he was in from the Index to War of 1812 Service Records for Volunteer Soldiers from Georgia, Judy Swain Kratovil. He was also listed in the History of the Georgia Militia - 1783-1861, Volume 2, Counties and Commanders (author may be Gordon Smith) -- found it at the Baldwin Co. Library in Milledgeville. LDS films also has a CD index of the War of 1812, by state, with participants names listed alphabetically. While looking for info on Philip, we ran across the Index to Certified Copy of List of American Prisoners of War 1812-1815 as Recorded in General Entry Book Ottawa, Canada, Compiled by Mrs. Henry James Carr. The Philip Logan listed was not Arnold's ancestor but the information could be very useful if you did find a relative listed. LDS has this Index also. We sent to Canada and got the record and it shows a physical description, age, where captured, etc. Was interesting even though it was not our Philip Logan. Hope some of this helps. According to the info there Isaac enlisted on Dec. 5. 1813 for 20 day service. I have been trying to get my hands on the book. I believe the book is called, "History of Georgia Militia, 1783-1861." I knew that he was living in the Camden and Wayne County, GA area in the early 1800s.He was in the court records in Camden County in 1807. He was a juror from 1811-1819. He was living in Wayne County in the 1820 census. And he received 202 acres in Houston County in the 1821 Land Lottery. He gave the land to some of his children. He then migrated to the Gainesville, FL area in April 1827. He died in the Starke,FL area sometime before the start of the 2nd Seminole War in 1835. One of his sons (my family line), fought in the 2nd Seminole War. He received a land grant in 1843 in the Putnam County, FL area. And his widow received a pension in 1898. I would like to help you with the project in anyway I can. I live south of Jacksonville.
