This copy contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by Iva Davis Rutledge Non-Existent and Abandoned Cemeteries Babcock Cemetery The Babcock cemetery was located in the Babcock community of Miller County. There are no signs of any graves but it is known there were several graves of a Durham family. **************************************** Davis Pond Cemetery The Davis Pond cemetery was located north of the road across from the Davis Cemetery. Known to have had many graves, was the burying ground of slaves and used for many years after that time. Only one marker was found and one broken marker in 1982. Anthony, Hal b. 1838 d. 1912 J.W.J. b. No Date d. No Date *************************************** Dees Cemetery The Dees cemetery was located at Bellview in a field back of the old Isaac Bush Home. In 1982 there are no signs of any graves but known to have been the burial grounds for members of the Dees family. *************************************** (Old) Flat Creek Cemetery The old Flat Creek cemetery was located just north of the present Flat Creek cemetery and across the creek on land now owned by Mr and Mrs. Billy Joe Newberry. There are no signs of any graves on the farm land today nor has there been since 1945. A church member and historian remembered several cedar slab markers for children of Phoebe Philmon. This was a cemetery between 1847 and 1856, when the new Flat Creek cemetery was established. *************************************** Fox Cemetery The fox cemetery was located in the Griggs Community on land off the Springhead Road owned by Great Northern Paper Company. A firebreak around the area and some rocks piled east to west with several noticeable indentures are the only visible signs today. Possibly buried there were members of the Gay and Guest families. Known to be buried in the Fox are: Paul, Ella Turner b. ca 1863 d. ca 1883 Fox, Male Infant b. Unknown d. Unknown **************************************** Goat Farm Cemetery It is known that on land being farmed today there were several Native Americans and Whites buried on the old "Goat Farm." Never any markers. Cemetery located in eastern part of county. **************************************** King Cemetery The King cemetery was located approximately 10 1/2 miles west of Colquitt near the Three Notch Road on the Niza Lee Williams Davis farm in a pasture. It is unknown how many graves were there. Only one remains today. King, Mahala Bush b. 1856 d. December 21, 1906 Daughter of Elijah & Mahala B. Bush Wife of C.D. King *************************************** Newberry Family Plot The Newberry cemetery was 3 miles west of Colquitt on GA Hwy91 and 1/2 mile south at the Cypress Creek bridge. At one time there were many braves located there. The area is being farmed and there are only two markers laying beside the fence. Newberry, Infant Son b. September 17, 1885 d.
