B. Gilbert Passes Monday Mr. Joseph B. Gilbert, lovingly called "Uncle Joe, " died at his home on College Street Monday morning at seven o'clock following a lengthy illness of fifteen months. Mr. Gilbert was born August 26, 1881, in Miller County, he was a son of the late John G. and Missouri Kirkland Gilbert. He attended Miller County schools and in December 9, 1906, he married Mrs. Alice Loyless Odom of this county. He was a member of Salem Freewill Baptist Church and his death is a great loss to his loved ones and many warm friends who have known and admired him during his lifelong residence here. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon March 15, at 3 o'clock from the Union Missionary Baptist Church with the Reverend Charles Bishop pastor of Bainbridge Calvary Baptist Church officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Leon Comer, pastor of Colquitt Assembly of God Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Ivor Crawford, Aubrey Dozier, Clyde Calhoun, Robert Mundy, Fed Powell and Wyatt Chambers. The Colquitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Beside his wife, survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Crawford Sheffield, Mrs. W. T. Cooper and Mrs. Bluford DuBose, all of this city; one son W. H. Gilbert, of Bainbridge; three stepsons Bob Odom, of Hilton; Ashley Odom of Dade City, Fla.; Charlie Odom of New York City; 2 sisters, Mrs. Amelia Branch of Summerville and Mrs. George McLendon of Colquitt. Twenty-one grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren also survive. The family has the sympathy of hosts of friends in the passing of their beloved husband, father, grandfather. Among the out of town relatives here for the funeral services were Mrs. Amelia Branch, Douglas and John Lee Branch, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Serritt, of Summerville; Mrs. Ella Kimbrel of Live Oak, Fla.; Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Loyless, of Bainbridge; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Brown Kirkland of Columbus and Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Gilbert of Jasper, Fla.
