Mr. McNair had gone fishing with a friend in Norfolk Bay, where his body was found Tuesday. Mr. McNair was a foster son of Dr. and Mrs. W. O. Shepard of Bluffton and made his home with them for 12 years. A native of Miller County he graduated from Bluffton High School. A chief aviation metalsmith in the U. S. Navy, he recently received a medical discharge. He served in the North Atlantic and in Iceland during World War II. Graveside services were held at Bluffton cemetery Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock with the Rev. W. T. Bodenhamer officiating. Interment followed with Bryan Funeral Home in charge and Curtis Hubbard, C. W. Cain, Will Harris, Mark Milliner, C. W. Cain, Clinton Gay, M. M. Goodman, Jack Bell, Grady Milliner, and Woodrow Milliner serving as pallbearers. Survivors in addition to his foster parents, include his wife, the former Miss Clemmie Coleman, of Carnegie; two sons, Lester, Jr., and Joe McNair, of Norfolk; two daughters, Annette and Janette, of Norfolk; four brothers, J. F. McNair, Albany, A. J. McNair, Irvington, N. Y., Perry R. McNair, Orlando, Fla., and Dewey H. McNair, U. S. Air Force, Pakistan; a sister, Mrs. W. N. Norton, Chicago, Ill.; and two half sisters, Mrs. W. G. Hancock, Leaksville, N. C. and Mrs. Lester George, Blakely.
