A native of Colquitt, he was born March 26, 1889. He graduated from Emory University Medical School in 1912 and was a member of the Over 50 Practice Club for physicians, having practiced medicine in Bluffton for 50 years, he was a member of the Georgia Southwestern Medical Society. He was retired for the last few years. He also had extensive land holdings in Clay and Miller Counties and served in the U. S. Army Medical Corps during World War I. Survivors include his wife, Aileen Hayes Shepard, Edison; a foster son, Dewey Hayes McNair, Albany, two brothers, J. O. Shepard, Sr., Colquitt, and B. B. Shepard, Leary, three sisters, Mrs. Roy Pullen, Damascus, Mrs. John Hudspeth, Blakely, and Mrs. Fred Martin, Blakely; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The funeral was held Sunday at 3:30 p. m. at the Bluffton Methodist Church. Interment in the Bluffton Cemetery with Manry-Jordan Funeral Home in charge. He was the son of William Byrd "Bill" Shepard and Elizabeth Annie "Lizzie" McNair. His wife was Aileen Hayes, daughter of Joshua J. Hayes and Druscilla Reed.
