Mr. Cooper was born in Early County but lived in Miller County most of his life. He was born November 24, 1907, and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Tom J. Cooper. He was a member of the Colquitt Freewill Baptist Church where he was a retired deacon. He was also retired in the Mercantile field. Funeral service was held at the Colquitt Freewill Baptist Church, Tuesday afternoon, April 16, 1985, at 4:00 p. m. Interment followed at the City Cemetery. Rev. Claud Cook and Rev. S. E. Newberry officiated. Active pallbearers were Bud Carter, Ricky Braswell, Ted Bush, Glen Sheffield, Buren Womble, and Stanley Tiner. Honorary pallbearers were Pete Davis, Elton Smith, Abbie Calhoun, Horace Lovering, and Horace Lovering, Jr., Lavon Lovering, Jeff Henry, Johnny Naylor, Louie Hearn, Henry Cook, John H. Stein, and Henry Harrell. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Essie Cooper, Colquitt; three sons, Lamar Cooper and Talmadge Cooper, Colquitt and Harold Cooper, Norristown, Pa.; one sister, Mrs. Mayme Grier, Greenville, Fla., one brother, Cecil Cooper, Blakely; four grandchildren and one great -- grandchild.
