Davis Albany Herald Wednesday, August 3, 1988 Americus, Georgia Buren R.B. Davis, 78, well known Americus resident and native of Miller County, died Tuesday, August 2, 1988, in the afternoon at the Windemere Nursing Home in Augusta, where he had been a resident since last April. Funeral services are scheduled in Americus, Thursday, August 4, 1988, at 2:00 p.m. from Central Baptist Church with interment following in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mr. Davis, 406 Wildwood Circle, had retired here in 1975 as a counselor for the State Rehabilitation Office of the Georgia Department of Education. A resident of Americus for the last 40 years, Mr. Davis was the son of the late Charles E. Davis and Minnie Mock Davis, of Colquitt. He was a member and deacon of Central Baptist Church, having once served as a chairman of the Board of Deacons and also as teacher of the M.C. Gardner Sunday School Class of the church for many years. Mr. Davis was also active in Boy Scout activities and was a former leader in Troop 21 sponsored by the Americus Kiwanis Club. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Hammett Davis, Americus; two sons, Dr. James B. Davis, Augusta, and Dr. Charles H. Davis, Columbia, S.C.; a brother, Denver L. Davis, Colquitt; three granddaughters, Lindsay Davis, Julie Davis, and Suzie Davis of Augusta; and one grandson, Jay Davis, Augusta; also a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Davis was an outstanding educator in Southwest Georgia. His career began in Early County where he taught in the Colomokee School, followed by teaching in the Blakely High School. He was elected by the voters of Early County as County School Superintendent of Early County. He was well known throughout Georgia and greatly liked and loved by all who knew him. Memorials may be made to the Central Baptist Church of Americus. Hancock Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
