A pall of gloom was cast over the county Thursday when it was learned that Mrs. Irene Brown Heard, 46, had passed away Wednesday night in Donalsonville. Mrs. Heard was hospitalized January 30. She was suffering from perforated peptic ulcer of stomach which developed into peritonitis before she went to the hospital. She fought bravely and her patient endurance during her illness will long be remembered by her family. Mrs. Heard was born in Miller County January 7, 1895. She was united in marriage with S. Marion Grimes and to this union was born four sons and two daughters. Mr. Grimes died December 22, 1928 and later she married Mr. Bryant H. Heard and to this union was born one son and two daughters. She was a good wife and mother. She was a member of Mothers Home Freewill Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at Mother's Home church Friday morning at eleven o'clock, the Rev. Drew Floyd, assisted by Rev. Tom Henry, officiating in the presence of a large and sorrowing assemblage of relatives and friends. Messrs G. G. Carter, H.L. and Gene Catrett sang "Have Thine Own Way" and "Abide With Me." Mr. Carey Williams accompanied at the piano. Pall bearers included Mr. J.B. Jones and Mr. Bill Howard of Jacksonville, Fla. and Messrs D.W. Everson, Lov Andrews, C.H. Grimes and W.O. Harrell of this county. Interment was in Fann Cemetery. The deceased is survived by her husband and nine children: Mr. Henry J. Grimes, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Mr. Robert Grimes, U.S. Navy, San Francisco, Calif.; Lewis, Wright, Misses Linnie Ruth and Geraldine Grimes, all of this county; and Lester, Caroline and Sallie Esther Heard of this place. Other survivors include six sisters, Mrs. C. L. Howard of Jakin, Mrs. Esther Mays of Washington, D.C., Mesdames T.D. Green, C.D. Bivins, J.B. Jones, and L.W. Taylor of Jacksonville, Fla.; three brothers, Mr. Clay Brown of Colquitt, Mr. Frank Brown of Jacksonville, and Mr. Metz Brown of Porto Rico. Evans and Son, Funeral Directors were in charge.
