Tait Georgia 1805-1873 Minister of Summerhill Church Thomas Co.,, Harmony Church Mitchell Co., Shady Grove Church, Stewart Co., The Christian Index, Published every Wednesday at Macon, Georgia By a Committee of Brethern, for the Georgia Baptist Convention Janunary 31, 1850 Married On the 6th inst., by the Rev. William A. Tait, Mr. S.B. Rushing and Miss Mary B. Gregory all of Stewart Co., GA. August 28, 1851 From the Christian Index: Brother Dagg- I send you the account o f a meeting that commenced Friday before the Lords day in July. The church seemed to be cold at the commencement, and for several days there seemed but little interest more than a full attendance of thr church and congregation. The meeting continued day and night for eleven days, in which time the good Lord was blessed to pour out his spirit in rich profusion upon his children, and sinners was made to tremble and seek salvation in the merits of Christ. Many found peace in beliving. The result was twenty- eight baptised, four recieved by letter, one restored. We had the aid of Brother Tait and Brother Steely, and in the latter part of the meeting Brother J. H. Campbell. The church met again on the next Saturday and Sunday and received two more by experience, making ---- by experience. Yours truly in Gospel bonds, Z. Powell, Green Hill, Stewart Co., August 09, 1851 October 26, 1854 * Revivals Brother D. G. Da?iell, of Thomasville, communaicates, interesting intelligence to his son, in a letter from which we are permitted to make the following claims: In most if not all of these mettings, backsliders were reclaimed and some who had always been regarded as {?} members were made seriously to enquire into the reason of the hope that swelt within them. I have learned also that Brother Tait of this county {Thomas} had a very interesting sermon at Summerhill Church, some eight or ten miles off, during which he baptized between fifteen and twenty. Besides all this there are to mind, unmistakable evidences that Baptist interest are strengthening in this region. Mintues of the Bowen Baptist Association, Held with the New China Grove Church, Mitchell County, Georgia October 11, 12 and 13, 1872 Officers: J. L. Underwood - Moderator, W. L. Curry - Clerk Macon, Georgia, J. W. Burke and Co., Book and Job printers 1872 (I) Report of Committee on Deceased and Indigent Ministers Your committee beg leave to report that this body is called on to mourn the loss of two of the most devoted and efficient ministers within its membership. Brother William A. Tate has died and it is belived, has entered the rest that remains for the people of God. He was on the oldest of the Fathers of Isreal in our Associations. But while the brethren are left to mourn in sadness his departure from our brotherhood, and will miss his widsom and experience in council, they may safely rejoice in the assurance that their loss is his eternal gain. Additional Comments: I'm the 5th great-Grand daughter to William A. Tait. I have done alot of research on him. He was born in GA yr 1805, and died in Decatur Co., GA December 1873. I'm very interested in any information on him and his preaching. I'm also looking for his parents, siblings and the place in Georgia where he was born.
