ENON BAPTIST CHURCH MITCHELL COUNTY, GEORGIA October 6, 1996 The 46th annual Homecoming was held October 6, 1996. There is something special about Mt. Enon and people are drawn to this place on this Sunday year after year. It brings folks from North and South Carolina, Florida, and of course, we Georgia folks are on hand to greet them. Due to overcast skies and windy conditions, our Homecoming Committee deemed it best to have the meal inside. Mrs. Janice Yeager and her committee did a wonderful job. The welcome was given by Mr. Jesse Bowles and thanks by Rev. Joe Rehberg. A good meal and fellowship was enjoyed by all. The afternoon program began by singing "Standing On The Promises" led by Billy Cochran. Rev. Lynn Roberts gave the "Memorial Remarks" remembering Mrs. Daisy Sesco, Mr. Harry Irwin and Mr. George Davis. He then led us in a "Sing Along" of several familiar hymns followed by a solo "Holy Ground". Chairperson Bobby Pinson called the meeting to order for the business session. The minutes of the 1995 meeting were read and approved. Committee Reports: Roof-Chairperson Bobby Pinson had a roofer to repair the roof, however, it appears we may still have a leak. Adrian Beck is to recheck. The ceiling needs to be repainted due to the leaks. This is to be taken care of by the House and Grounds Committee and the bill to be sent to the Treasurer for payment. Chairperson Pinson made this into a motion and it was accepted. Adrian Beck gave a report on the fence at the front. It was cleaned and repainted by Dewey Robinson. It should be cleaned at regular intervals to avoid sand blasting. The water situation has been taken care of, pvc pipe was installed, replacing the hose. The pine tree on the west fence has not been taken down. Bobby Brooks and Adrian Beck were not able to handle this and came to the conclusion that we had two choices; 1) To have a pro- fessional come in to take it down, which would be expensive or 2) Let it stay as is and should it fall, and the fence is damaged, it will be less expensive to repair the fence than take the tree down. The group favored the latter choice. Mr. Billy storey called our attention to another tree, but it was not thought to be dangerous. It was called to our attention that Mr. Gene Ingram is responsible for our security light. The Mitchell Co. EMC donated one and Mr. Ingram, donated the other. A special "Thank You" letter will be sent to Mr. Ingram. It seems we have mold on the walls again. The wasps were on hand for Home- coming this year. Adrian took care of them and will have the mold removed and promised to check on the wasps before Homecoming next year. Mrs. Sara Glausier made a motion that the House and Grounds Committee should handle the tree situation and be authorized to handle the fence clearing. We need some trash cans on the back side of the cemetery for people to dispose of the old flowers. Adrian thanked Mrs. Glausier for walking over the cemetery and making her suggestions. Mrs. Ruby Britt gave the Treasurer's report. She advised that our present insurance on the building needed to be renewed by October 19 and they could no longer cover our property. They gave her a quote from another carrier and would have another before October 19. Coverage will be renewed at that time. Bobby Pinson gave a report on the Trust Fund for Mt. Enon that was set up by Joe Brooks. Historical Committee: Louise Jordan gave a report on the wall plaque to be placed in the foyer of the church. It will be a 2' X 3' plaque with spaces for 80 memorials. The plaque will cost $300 to $350 and a fee of $3.00 to engrave each plate. It would include the name, date of birth and date of death of the person remembered. Mrs. Sara Glausier is very interested in this by giving a memorial to her husband and Mrs. Janice Yeager one for her mother. Mrs. Glusier made this into a motion, that Mrs. Jordan proceed with purchasing the plaque. It was seconded by David Duck. Mrs. Jordan advised she would have it in place by next Homecoming. To have a name on the plaque, it must be by special request, a minimum of $100. The check should show that it is for a memorial and information furnished to Mrs. Jordan. Mrs. Elizabeth Jackson Hinkle offered to pay $300 on the plaque and the Duck children will pay the rest. David Duck advised that someone in Tifton would like to donate a picnic shed to the organization. All we would need to do, would be to assemble the building. There was much discussion on the matter with most of the group declining the offer. Motion was made to leave it in the hands of the House and Grounds Committee. Dorothy Irvin, Sec. is to contact the Historical Society to see if such a building could be erected on the property since we are on the National Register of Historical Places. She will advise the Executive Committee and the House and Grounds Committee of her findings. Nominating Committee Report: Mr. Pinson referred to the officers listed on the back of the bulletin. He asked if there were any questions. Mrs. Ruby Britt asked to speak. She advised she would have to resign effective the end of October. She cited the 50 hour work week and the fact that she had applied for a transfer as her reasons. She would handle paying the bills until that date. Mrs. Janice Yeager was nominated to fill this position. Motion was made and accepted. She will assume this position November l and Mrs. Sara Jett Beck will remain Assoc. Tres. Joe Brooks called to our attention the paint on the windows outside was peeling. The House and grounds Committe will handle this along with other repairs. Chairperson Pinson then turned the meeting over to Dick Hydrick Chairperson for 1996-97 to close. Mrs. Glausier gave a report from her visit with Lamar and Agnes Clyatt. They asked to be remembered to everyone and we need to remember them as Lamar continues his recovery. Also, she mentioned Mrs. Virginia Fleming of Tifton whose funeral was September 26. Adrian Beck reminded us that Mrs. Margaret Irwin has had surgery and we need to remember her that she will have a good recovery. The Chairman asked that we all stand and be dismissed by singing "Blest Be The Tie That Binds". Respectfully submitted, Signed: Dorothy Irvin, Sec. My Comment: A beautiful and thorough job of the Minutes.
