Tate a Private of the 4th GA Regiment of Cav. do solomnly swear that I will not bear arms against the United States of America or give information or do any military duty whatsoever until regularly exchanged as a prisoner of war. W.H. Tate DESCRIPTION: Height 5ft, 6 in, Hair, Dark, Eyes, Dark, Complexion, Dark I certify that the above parole was given by me on the date above written on the following conditios. The above person is allowed to return to his home, not to be disturbed by the military authories of the United States so long as he observes this parole and obeys the laws which were in force previous to January 1 1861, where he resided. By Order of Brig. Gen E.M. McCook Signed G. M. Burns Captain and Provost Marshal Additional Comments: William H. Tait is the son of William A. and Catherine Tait/Tate. He was born in Georgia year 1832. He along with 5 other brothers joined the Civil War. His service records indicate that he returned home after the war, but today I have not been able to find records on him. He was first located living in his fathers home in Stewart County Georgia Census Records for 1850, in the next year he was living in the home of Joseph Singleterry, Mitchell County Georgia as a Horse Trader. It seems from his records before the war that he worked well with horses, and then again during the war. If you have any further information on William H. Tait please let me know!
