Mr. Daniel Kierce, one of Mitchell county's very best citizens, died at his home near Pelham on Wednesday afternoon, 23 October 1929, at the age of 85. He was a pioneer citizen of this county and a Christian gentleman who commanded the love and esteem of all who knew him. He was a successful farmer, a leader in the community, civic and religious affairs and left an impress upon those with whom he spent his life that will live after him. Mr. Kierce was a Confederate veteran with a record of four years of faithful service in the Army of the South and during late years had been a familiar figure in the county gatherings of these old heroes of the sixties. Mr. Kierce is survived by his wife and one son, Mr. Dewey Kierce of Pelham. He also is survived by one brother, Mr. Joseph Kierce of Baker, Florida. Funeral services were held Thursday, 24 October 1929, from the Pelham Baptist church, of which the deceased had been a devoted member. Services were conducted by a former pastor of the church, Rev J. P. Lee of Pompano, Fla. assisted by the pastor, Rev C. C. Kiser, and Rev S. O. Thomas.
