W. C. Lovingood as written in "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 19 Feb 1926. Camilla, Georgia. Mr. G. W. C. Lovingood passed away peacefully Monday, 15 Feb 1926, just before 4:00 PM at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. A. Shiver, on Oakland Avenue after a long period of ill health. Weakened with the infirmities of old age and having suffered for the past year or so with Brights disease, the deceased had been care for as tenderly as a little child, but on Wednesday of last week he was taken with a more severe attack and continued to grow worse despite all that could be done, the end coming in less than a week. Funeral services were held Tuesday, 16 Jun 1926, at 2:00 PM at Mt. Zion church, the services being conducted by Rev J. G. Graham. A large number of friends of the bereaved family attended the funeral and there were many beautiful floral offerings. Interment was in the cemetery beside the church. Mr. Lovingood had lived to a ripe old age and would have been ninety years old if he had lived until 11 March. He was born and reared in North Carolina and had lived for a long number of years at Murphy, having served for many years as sheriff of Cherokee county and after he became an old man had been justice of the peace for 26 years. He was a man of earnest Christian character and had been a member of the Baptist church since he was a boy of nineteen years. Mr. Lovingood was also an honored soldier of the Confederacy, having spent the entire four years of the war in active service. He was twice married. His first wife was a Miss Jane Cook. His second wife, who was the mother of Mrs. Shiver, was Miss Harriett McDonald, and she had preceded her husband to the grave several years ago. Mr. Lovingood had made his home here with his daughter, Mrs. Shiver, for nearly a year before his death. Surviving the deceased are the following children: Messrs. Drew, Ben and Dent Lovingood, and Mrs. R. H. Johnson, all of near Murphy, N. C. and Mrs. H. A. Shiver of this city. Mrs. S. T. Prosser of Thomasville is a granddaughter of the deceased. The bereaved family have the sincere sympathy of the entire community in their sad hour.
