Camilla, Georgia. Many hearts throughout the county were made sad by the death of Mrs. V.E. Rackley, which took place at her home here on Thursday night of last week, 5 Jul 1923, after an illness of several months. Mrs. Rackley was affected with a complication of troubles, was taken to the hospital at Albany for operation and treatment and everything possible was done for her relief, but to no avail, though she lingered through months of suffering before the end came on Thursday night. Funeral services were held Friday, 6 Jul 1923 at 4:00 PM at Mt Zion Church where the deceased had been brought up from childhood. The services were conducted by Rev H.N. Burnett and a large number of friends and relatives were present to pay their tribute of love and respect to the memory of their loved one. A large number of beautiful floral offerings, placed on the casket by loving hands, gave mute testimony of their kind regard. The body was laid to rest in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Mrs. Rackley was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles P. Palmer and was born and brought up in this county. She had just reached the height of usefulness and bloom of womanhood when stricken by the hand of disease and death, and had scarcely reached her fortieth year of age when her sweet spirit passed from earthly habitation to her Heavenly home. The deceased possessed a true type of Christian womanhood, kind gentle and loving, unselfish and retiring, she lived her life quietly for others and as a wife and mother she fulfilled a ministry that could not be estimated in earthly terms. When just a young girl she was converted and joined the Baptist Church and was a faithful member as long as she lived. The deceased is survived by her husband and the following children; Misses Eunice, Wilma, Marjorie and Chloe Loyd, young girls in the 'teen ages, and two smaller children Vasser E. and Joyce, all of whom mourn her loss. Mrs. Rackley leaves also the following sisters and brothers; Mrs. M.M. Poore of Sale City; Mrs. Alice Powell, Messrs. Sam P., Hubert and Tenneth Palmer, all of Camilla, and Mrs, Claud Frazier of Baker County.
