Camilla, Georgia. Friends throughout the county were grieved at the news Monday afternoon that Mr. J. T. Mock, one of Mitchell's prominent and well beloved citizens, had passed away at his home at 4:00 PM. Mr. Mock had been suffering from a complication if diseases for a year or more, following a severe illness from influenza. Although it was generally known that his health was bad, his illness and death came on very suddenly and was a sad shock to all who knew him. Funeral services were held at Mt. Zion church Tuesday, 31 Aug at 3:30 PM. A large assemblage of relatives and friends of the deceased filled the little church. Rev H. N. Burnett conducted funeral services in the church, at the conclusion of which the Camilla Masonic Lodge took charge of the body, laying it rest with all the honors and rites of Masonry, Judge I. A. Bush acting as Worshipful Master. The pall bearers were Messrs. C. G. Griner, Sam Griner, W. L. Shiver, J. P. McRee, J. C. Wilson and W. M. Stevens. Mr. Mock passed from his earthly labors at the age of 66 years. he had always led a very active life and up to a year or so ago had enjoyed perfect health. Mr. Mock had spent a lifetime in Mitchell county and was one of those substantial citizens who compose the backbone of the county. He always took a large interest in the affairs of the county and was prominent among its farmers. Mr. Mock was a man of splendid character and benevolent nature and few men in the county possess more staunch friends than he. He was long an active member of the Masonic order. The deceased is survived by his aged mother, his wife and the following children; Mrs. Perry Durham of Iron City, Mrs. Armand Eubanks of Valdosta, Mrs. Albert Faircloth, Miss Autry Mock and Mr. Herbert Mock all of this county. Four brothers, Messrs, George, Frank, Solomon and Sherman Mock, and two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Covington and Miss Viny Mock, are also left to mourn his death. The bereaved family have the sincere sympathy of numbers of friends throughout the county in their hour of sorrow.
