Camilla, Georgia. Of sad note to many friends throughout the county was the death of Mr. Richard Griner, aged and highly esteemed citizen of the county, which took place at the home of Mr. H. D. Kemp on Thursday, 23 Dec 1926, of last week at 7:30 PM after a short illness. "Uncle Dick" as he was lovingly called, had for some time been so feeble that he could hardly get about the house, and his short illness was just the sapping of the frail thread of life. Funeral services were held Friday, 24 Dec 1926, at 2:00 PM at old Evergreen Church, where Mr. Griner had worshiped for a long number of years. Rev Albert Ott was in charge of the simple service and many old friends of the deceased were present to show their love and respect. Mr. Griner had reached the advanced age of 86 years when his life came to a close. He was born and raised on the farm in the community of Evergreen and Bethany churches and lived his entire life on the farm where he was born and which he still owned at the time of his death. This with the exception of his latest years when in his enfeebled health he went to make his home with the family of Mr. H. D. Kemp. Mr. Griner, though quiet and unassuming of nature, possessed many fine traits of character and held the love and high esteem of numbers of friends as long as he lived. When the Civil War come on in the Sixties, he enlisted and served faithfully in the Army of the Confederacy. Mr. Griner had been a Christian for a long number of years and early in life had united with Evergreen Baptist Church, and probably was the church's oldest member at the time of his death. The deceased was united in marriage to Mis Mary Kemp, who preceded him to the grave about forty years ago. Though no members of Mr. Griner's immediate family survives, there are nieces and nephews and many friends, who are sorrowful at his passing from the scene of his long life here.
