Camilla, Georgia. A distinct shock was felt by many friends throughout the county at the news of the death of Mr. Will C. Palmer at his home near Mt. Zion on Saturday, 11 Sep 1920 at 7:00 PM, after an illness of only a few days from heart trouble. Mr. and Mrs. Palmer had gone up to Pritchardsville, S .C., about two weeks ago to visit their son, MR. C. U. Palmer. Mr. Palmer was taken ill there and his wife and son brought him back to Camilla Thursday of last week. He continued to grow worse until Saturday evening when the end came. His entire family were with him when he passed away, except one son, Mr. Allie Palmer, Pittsburg, Pa., who had been summoned home, but was unable to get here until Monday. The funeral took place at Pleasant Hill church on Monday at 3:30 PM. The little church was not large enough to hold the large crowd of people present, a number of them standing outside during the services. Rev H. N. Burnett conducted the services in the church, rendering a touching tribute to the life of the deceased. The St. Paul's Commandery of Knights Templars then took charge of rhe body, laying it to rest with impressive ceremonies of the order. The pall bearers were Knights Templars also. The deceased was a son of Mr. C. P. Palmer and was born and reared in this county. He was about fifty 0ne years of age at the time of his death. About thirty years ago he was married to Miss Sara Williams, daughter of Mr. Wilbur Williams, of this county, who now survives him, together with the following children: Mr. C. U. Palmer of Prithardsville, S C., Mr. Alli Palmer of Pittsburg, Pa., Misses Leona and Willie Palmer, and two young sons, Bruce and Woodrow. Early in life Mr. Palmer joined the Mt. Zion Baptist church, of which he continued a faithful member until death and possessed a type of Christianity which bore the test of long experience. He was a Christian gentlemen of the highest order and held affectionate regard of numbers of warm friends. Mr. Palmer had long been one of the most prominent farmers of the county and was also engaged in turpentine and naval stores interests in South Carolina. A quiet, staunch and solid citizen was he, and a man whose peer is hard to find. The deceased is also survived by his father, Mr. C. P. Palmer, his three brothers, Messrs. Sam, Hubert and Tenneth Palmer, and four sisters, Mrs. Alice Powell, Mrs. M. Poore, Mrs. V. E. Rackley, and Mrs. Claud Frazier, all of Mitchell county except Mrs. Frazier who lives in Newton. The bereaved family and loved ones of this good man have the tender sympathy of their numbers of friends throughout the county.
