( This obit spells the last name as Hayes but all subsequent information about this person is spelled Hays.) A death which has caused sadness among her many friends all over this county, was that of Mrs. Willie Mulford Hayes, wife of Mr. Cap Hayes, which occurred at her home in Hopeful community shortly after noon Friday, 21 Sep 1923, after an illness of several weeks. Funeral services were held at Hopeful church Saturday, 22 Sep 1923, morning when a large crowd of sorrowing relatives assembled to pay their tribute of love and respect and mingle their tears with those of the bereaved family. The services were conducted by Rev. J. I. D. Miller, after which the body was tenderly laid to rest in the family lot in the cool shade of the trees in the quiet cemetery beside the church. Mrs. Hayes was in the bloom of useful womanhood when death took her from family and friends. She was thirty-five years of age and born and brought up in this county. She was member of the large family of children of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Mulford, several of whom have preceded her to the grave. Mrs. Hayes has spent her entire married life in Hopeful community, where as a mother of a large family of children, her sweet, loving and gentle nature was demonstrated. Besides being a kind and loving wife and mother, she found time for a service of love and charity with neighbors and friends, and was known far and wide for her untiring kindness to others. Mrs. Hayes had lived since early in life a consecrated Christian life and had for a number of years been a faithful and loyal member of the Hopeful Baptist church. The deceased is survived by her heart-broken husband and seven children, ranging in ages from seventeen to two years, who are left desolate by her death. In addition to her husband and children Mrs. Hayes is survived by her mother, Mrs. Cutts, and four sisters, Mrs. Ralph Sharp, Mrs. Ed Hayes, Mrs. Jack Hayes and Mrs. Forsh Hayes, all of this community. Friends of Hopeful community and the entire county extend to the bereaved family the hand of Christian sympathy in their dark hour.
