Adams Crosby as written in "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 10 Mar 1939. Mrs. S. E. Crosby, 84, aged and beloved Mitchell county woman, died Monday, 6 Mar 1939, at 2:30 PM at the home of her daughter Mrs. J. E. Davis, near Camilla, where she made her home. Mrs. Crosby was the former Miss Artemisia Adams. She was born in this county, 20 Jul 1854, and spent her entire life here. In early young womanhood she was married to Mr. S. E. Crosby, who preceded her in death twenty one years ago. Mrs. Crosby is survived by three sons, W. B. Crosby of Sale City; M. C. Crosby of Camilla and E. S. Crosby of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; and four daughters, Mrs. Oscar Faircloth of Sale City; Mrs. Mattie McClelland of Hartsfield; Mrs. J. E. Davis of Camilla; and Mrs. Ardie Brooks of Lester. Surviving also are a large number of relatives and hosts of friends, who had felt the quiet, gentle influence of this good woman, who through the years had been faithful to principles of Christianity and lived a life of service to others. Funeral services took place Tuesday, 7 Mar 1939, at 4:00 PM at Pebble City Baptist Church, where a large number of friends were gathered. Rev J. T. Rigsby conducted the service. Pall bearers were Minor Crosby, Wilburn Crosby, Essee Crosby, Earnest Crosby, James Jones, J. H. McClelland and J. P. McClelland. J. R. Bramlett Undertaking Co. was in charge. Interment was in the family lot in Shady Grove Cemetery. The bereaved family have the warm sympathy of many friends in their sad loss.
